A clearer path
to support.
Wear Purple Day is an independent domestic violence awareness project. We connect people with publicly listed programs and trusted information. We are not a shelter, hotline, legal service, or emergency response service, and we are not affiliated with the organizations listed.
Where the directory comes from
Each listing links to its public source. Sources include the National Network to End Domestic Violence’s state and territory coalition list, state coalition directories, and service organizations’ own websites. View the directory source list.
Sources were retrieved October 15, 2026. This date means we consulted the source on that date; it does not mean every program confirmed its details with us. Listings include factual contact and service information, not copied editorial descriptions. Directory names may differ from current organization branding.
What a ZIP / postal-code search means
The search accepts a five-digit U.S. ZIP code or a Canadian postal code. U.S. searches match an approximate city location and county. Canadian searches use the first three postal-code characters (the forward sortation area), and accept either a full postal code or this three-character area. When county coverage is available, matching county programs appear first, followed by approximate proximity. Programs in your state or province and programs within about 100 miles (160 km) in the same country may appear. For programs without published coordinates, approximate city, ZIP, or service-area county centers are used. These are not driving distances and are not distances to shelter entrances. State networks are referral organizations, and their office locations do not limit the statewide area they support.
The directory includes local listings in all 50 U.S. states and all 13 Canadian provinces and territories, plus U.S. state and territory referral options. Coverage is growing and varies by region. An empty result does not mean help is unavailable. In the U.S., The National Domestic Violence Hotline and state coalitions can help locate additional options. In Canada, ShelterSafe and provincial networks can help find more programs.
Canadian postal-area data is provided by GeoNames under CC BY 4.0. It is an approximate location reference, not postal delivery validation.
Before contacting a program
Confirm its service area, hours, eligibility, accessibility, languages, and availability directly. A listing does not mean a bed is available or that all listed services are offered at every location. Office and program contact numbers are labeled separately from crisis lines when the source distinguishes them. We do not publish street addresses or directions to confidential shelters.
Your privacy and digital safety
Your ZIP / postal code and search terms are processed in the current browser tab. This site does not send your ZIP / postal code to an external geocoding service, save search history in local storage, ask for device location, use advertising trackers, or require an account. Hosting providers still process ordinary connection information such as IP addresses and requested page paths to deliver the site.
Quick exit opens weather.com and replaces the current page. It cannot erase browser history, downloads, call logs, device monitoring, network logs, or synced activity. Calls, texts, emailed messages, and visits to linked organizations have their own privacy implications. Consider using a safer device. Read The Hotline’s internet safety guidance.
Newsletter privacy
Newsletter signup is optional and separate from resource searches. We store your email address, consent, subscription status, and signup and confirmation timestamps in a private database. We use this information to manage the newsletter and send new-subscriber reports to the site operator. Your email address is not published in the directory. We do not ask whether you have experienced abuse.
A confirmation email is sent before your subscription becomes active. Receiving that email or a newsletter may be visible to others who can access your email account. Only sign up when it is safe for you. You can unsubscribe through a newsletter preference link. Unsubscribing removes your raw email address from the subscriber record; a keyed email hash and subscription status are kept to honor your preference. Pending signup records expire after 30 days and confirmation links after 24 hours. Contact info@wearpurpleday.com for a deletion request. Technical abuse controls use a one-way hash of the connection address rather than saving the address in the subscriber record.
Corrections and contact
To suggest a public resource or correct an organization’s listing, email info@wearpurpleday.com. Please do not include a survivor’s location, personal safety plan, or other sensitive details. This email is not a crisis service. For support in the U.S., contact 800-799-7233 or The Hotline. In Canada, find a local helpline through ShelterSafe.
